At SoCal Water Solutions, our commitment to clean water doesn't stop at the job site. It extends to the halls of government, where policy decisions shape the future of water quality for millions of Californians. Recently, our Founder and President, Norma Lara, joined industry peers in Sacramento for WQA/PWQA Lobbying Day — a powerful reminder that advocacy is as much a part of our mission as installation and service.

Here's a recap from Norma herself:

"WQA/PWQA Lobbying Day in Sacramento 🙌 We were proud to join industry peers for a full morning of speakers, collaboration, and legislative office visits at the California State Capitol. In addition to our scheduled group meetings, attendees connected with legislators and staff throughout the day. In total, we engaged with more than 25 legislators and staff members to advocate for our industry and the customers we serve. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, represented our voice, and took the time to build meaningful connections. Advocacy matters, and showing up makes a difference."

Why Legislative Advocacy Matters for Water Quality

The water treatment industry operates within a complex web of regulations, funding programs, and public health mandates. Events like WQA/PWQA Lobbying Day give industry professionals a direct line to the legislators who write and vote on the policies that affect our work — and more importantly, the communities we serve. By showing up in Sacramento, we help ensure that the voices of water treatment professionals and their customers are heard where decisions are made.

Bringing State Resources to Rural Communities

One of the initiatives closest to Norma's heart is the work being done in Imperial County through California's SAFER program (Safe and Affordable Funding for Equity and Resilience). This state-funded initiative provides resources to bring safe water infrastructure to rural and underserved areas — communities that are often overlooked in broader water policy conversations.

SoCal Water Solutions is proud to be part of this effort, using SAFER program funds to assess water quality issues and install water treatment systems for residents who have long lacked access to reliably safe drinking water. For many of these families, the difference between untreated and treated water is a matter of daily health.

Showing Up — In the Field and in the Capitol

Whether Norma is giving a manufacturer representative a tour of rural project sites or sitting across the table from a state legislator, the message is the same: clean water is a fundamental right, not a privilege. It takes both hands-on fieldwork and sustained advocacy to make that vision a reality.

We are grateful for every partner, peer, and policymaker who shares that commitment. And we will keep showing up — in the communities we serve and in the rooms where decisions are made.
